New filters new lift pump any suggestions?? Timing sensor on the side of the pump and the drivers side of the engine, the rack may be stuck in the pump or the advance diaphram may have gone bad in the back section of the pump. Resistance check pin a to pin b of sensor ohms.
You may know what i am trying to ask and may not have any thing to do with this problem. My son changed a engine out yesterday and today. It was 95 VMAC and he pulled a cap plug off of a adjusting screw on the side of the pump mis ways back on pump and i would say against the rack.
He screwed on it not thinking and when he started it it was jacking off at idle. It was ok in the other truck so i pull the cap and adjust the loping out of it. I would say not knowing that its a rack tension spring, right?
Funny thing went down to start the truck and see if i fixed the problem and it wouldn't start I have fuel to the pump just not coming outta the injection lines. Could this be the plug that goes into the pump or computer issue if I check it with a test light g is the only one with power and it's not constant it's on off on off I'm thinking this could be the reason I have a miss at high rpm?
Buff srew adjustment turn adjusting screw in until it contacts rack note the amount of rotation use a small lite screwdriver for this, back the adjusting srew out until it contacts the other side of the rack note how many rotations then turn srew halfway back into housing to center it by turning it back in exactly one half of the total distance from fully in to fully out.
Be carefull the rack is thin and easy to bend when it makes contact its a very lite touch I did it when it was running and still cold and only turn it in till it stoped jacking off. Turn the key on to run but don't crank, watch the dash, look for the check lamps to go through self check, then when they are finished doing their thing and go off begin cranking with your eye on the tach.

I can tell you for sure that when it has its little episodes of no starting, the tach does not move I alway observe my dash, and I dont start the truck until all the self checks are performed and all the lights go out, not because Im patient and can wait but because on a darn volvo you have to wait for it to complete the self checks before you can start up.

The ecm will not fire the injectors without seeing rpm, the same rpm signal that is missing for your tach to read. I will have that checked up and inspected as soon as I return to STL MehoNov 19, Hopefully you're near the end of your mystery, I would pretty much bet you found your problem.

Welcome to HeavyEquipmentForums. I just bought a Mack CX with a horse E7 with k miles. Is there any way to read fault codes without the scanner? I ask this because someone told me you can manipulate certain speed and other settings in the computer by pressing a certain combination of buttons on the dash and somehow entering the last so many numbers of the VIN.
Could this be true? We put a computer on it at the dealership that sold it to me 6 hours away from me now and it showed a code that said "engine position sensor-erratic idle" We swapped in a new sensor and the problem went away for about the first 3 hours of driving then it came back. What's happening is when hot, it idles smoothly for about 3 seconds then I get a split second "upward" surge where it jumps up about a hundred RPM.
About evdry three seconds or so I get that slight upward jump in the RPM. Also, my driver reported an occasional check engine light on his mile loaded trip yesterday but I have yet to see a CEL when I've drove it about 6 hours with no trailer.
I've tried googling for a self test function in these engines but I can't find anything.
